Waldorf Felt Gnomes Tutorial

Here is an easy sewing project that's perfect for younger children.  These Waldorf felt gnomes are enchanting in their simplicity and children adore playing with them. They also make excellent gifts, tree ornaments or decorations for your winter nature or advent table.

Materials Needed

• Felt Gnome template
• 1 sheet of wool felt
• Embroidery thread
• Wool needle
• Wool roving
• Curly wool locks (for beard)
• Felting needle

Instructions

Use the template to trace the gnome pieces onto your wool felt and cut out.

​Using embroidery thread, sew the straight
edges together using a blanket stitch.

---

Roll wool roving into a tube - you can decide how much roving your gnome will need.

---

Use a felting needing to compact the roving in the end and to shape the roving around the face.

---

Push roving into your gnome to fill out the body. If needed, use a pencil to get the roving to the top of the hat.

---

Using the same blanket stitch, sew the bottom circle onto the gnome.

---

Using your felting needle, attach the curly wool locks to create beard.

---

Repeat steps to create the entire gnome family. These are ones I made...
