Scope & Sequence Overview

Daily Wonder is aligned with the BC Ministry of Education learning standards, which emphasize core competencies and conceptual understanding across all subject areas. Because these competencies are shared internationally, Daily Wonder is used successfully by families around the world. While reporting requirements vary by location, the knowledge, skills, and capacities developed through Daily Wonder align with the expectations of most educational jurisdictions.

How Daily Wonder organizes learning

Daily Wonder is organized into month-long thematic units. Each unit integrates multiple subject areas, allowing students to meet learning standards through story, hands-on work, artistic expression, discussion, and practice. Rather than teaching subjects in isolation, learning unfolds in a connected way that:
  • Introduces concepts developmentally
  • Revisits skills over time
  • Deepens understanding through repetition and application
  • Supports both academic growth and whole-child development
This integrated structure reflects how learning naturally unfolds, and allows families to document learning across subjects with clarity and confidence

  • Language Arts

Woven throughout every unit: oral storytelling, reading, writing, grammar, spelling, poetry, and research skills. Students develop strong literacy foundations through story-based instruction in the early grades, progressing toward independent writing, analysis, and presentation in the upper grades.
  • Mathematics

Taught through immersive concept blocks alongside ongoing skills practice. New concepts are introduced experientially and revisited regularly through guided practice, games, and real-world application. All core strands are addressed across the grades: number sense, operations, geometry, measurement, fractions, decimals, algebraic thinking, and financial literacy.
  • Science

Begins with observation and nature-based inquiry and expands into life, earth, physical, and human sciences. Students engage with botany, zoology, physics, chemistry, astronomy, and physiology through age-appropriate investigation and experiential learning.
  • History & Geography (Social Studies)

Progresses from local geography and community studies to regional, national, and global perspectives. History is introduced through myth, legend, and story in the early grades and develops into the study of civilizations, cultural encounters, and human development in later years. Indigenous perspectives and place-based learning are thoughtfully integrated throughout.
  • Arts Education

Artistic activity is essential and supports learning across all subjects. Students regularly engage in learning-portfolio drawing, visual representation, and creative expression aligned with each unit’s themes. Activities are offered as invitations rather than step-by-step instructions, allowing families to adapt artistic work to their child’s interests, abilities, and available materials.
  • Physical Education

Movement, games, coordination activities, and practical work are integrated throughout to support physical development, well-being, and social skills.
  • Social-Emotional Learning & Core Competencies

Daily Wonder intentionally supports social-emotional development alongside academic learning, fostering personal awareness, responsibility, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking through story, reflection, discussion, and practical experience. The curriculum also reflects the First Peoples’ Principles of Learning, which emphasize learning as holistic, relational, experiential, and connected to place, community, and identity.

Grades Overview

Kindergarten

Grounded in rhythm, imitation, sensory experience, and social-emotional development. Learning unfolds through seasonal themes, stories, songs, movement, practical activities, and guided play. Rather than formal academic instruction, the curriculum focuses on the conceptual foundations of literacy and numeracy, self-regulation, cooperation, and a sense of belonging — aligning with the conceptual layer of the BC learning standards.

Grades 1-3

Learning remains closely connected to imagination, story, and artistic activity while gradually introducing more structured academic work. Strong foundations in reading, writing, and mathematics develop through integrated lessons. Science and social studies focus on the natural world, community, and local environment. Skills are introduced gently and revisited often.

Grades 4-7

Students begin to meet the world with greater objectivity and independence. Academic work deepens across all subjects — history, geography, science, and mathematics — with increasingly complex concepts, research, and problem-solving, while continuing to learn through integrated, experiential lessons.

Math Scope & Practice

Daily Wonder follows a Waldorf‑informed approach to mathematics that balances conceptual understanding and ongoing practice.
  • New math concepts are introduced in immersive, focused units.
  • Skills are practiced regularly throughout the year to strengthen understanding.
  • Parents are guided on what skills to practice each month.
  • Families choose a math workbook or printable resource that suits their child and reporting needs.
This structure ensures comprehensive coverage while allowing flexibility to meet individual learners where they are.

Reporting and documentation support

Daily Wonder is designed to support homeschooling families with clear documentation. Standards inform the scope and sequencing of the curriculum, while instruction remains developmentally appropriate and integrated. Because subjects are integrated, learning may be reported across multiple subject areas from a single unit of study. When completing learning reports, parents may reference this Scope & Sequence overview, unit summaries and student work samples, and Daily Wonder’s grade-level Scope & Sequence PDFs, which you can download below.
