Grade 4 Unit 1 The Wonder of My Place
Explore the rich landscape of your immediate surroundings with The Wonder of My Place, the first unit in Daily Wonder’s Grade 4 geography sequence. This unit invites children to form a meaningful connection to where they live, beginning at home and gradually expanding outward to include the neighbourhood, town or city, and the local area surrounding them.
Through stories, discussion, and creative work, your child will explore Indigenous creation stories, traditional tales, and early settler narratives, strengthening verbal expression, listening, and written language skills. Children practice summarizing, working with language conventions, and engaging in thoughtful conversation as they reflect on each day’s learning.
As part of this place-based study, you will introduce your child to the natural features and resources of your local area, how people have interacted with the land over time, and the importance of respect for the animal world. Children are gently introduced to relationships between First Peoples and European settlers, developing an age-appropriate understanding of how these interactions have shaped the place they live.
The Wonder of My Place forms the foundation of a three-part geography progression in Grade 4. This first unit focuses on the child’s immediate environment; The Wonder of My Region later widens the lens to the broader province, state, or territory; and The Wonder of My Country brings the child into relationship with the geography and story of the nation as a whole.
Because Daily Wonder families live all around the world, our geography units are designed as parent-guided studies. Rather than providing fixed regional content, we offer clear, step-by-step guidance on what to bring each week and how to do so with confidence. You will research and gather information specific to your own place, with each week carefully laid out to make preparation manageable and meaningful.
This purchase includes one digital curriculum unit with 15 days of lesson plans and 5 days of flexible projects. This unit will inspire you with beautiful images, clear instructions and exciting project ideas.
And that's not all. You will also gain access to the Wonder Hub, which includes supporting documents, videos, resources, and community.
An important note about our geography units: Daily Wonder has students all around the world, so when it comes to learning about your specific local area in Grade 4, we provide step-by-step guidance as to what aspects of history and geography you'll bring to your child each week of the unit. You, the parent or teacher, will then research and gather the information necessary to share with your child or learning pod students. And with Daily Wonder, each week is laid out so you can prepare with ease.
For this geography unit, please ensure you have gathered the necessary library books, which you will need starting on day 1. Refer to the Materials List for book themes.
