Grade 4 Unit 1 The Wonder of Local Geography
Explore the rich landscape of your local region with The Wonder of Local Geography. As with all Daily Wonder lessons, our approach is to begin where the child is and to make a meaningful connection to the curriculum material. Local geography and history begin with the self. Mapmaking starts with your child's bedroom, neighbourhood, and familiar daily routes and then expands to encompass your region's history and natural landscape.
The 9 to 10-year-old child now has the capacity to create a "bird's-eye view" mental image. This inner picture will help your child to develop mapmaking skills throughout the unit. While building these particular skills, your child will come to understand the traditional Indigenous lifestyle, values, and practical arts.
Daily Wonder has members worldwide, so some parent preparation is required when learning about your local region. But not to worry, there are step-by-step guided instructions to help you. There are two geography units in Grade 4. This first one covers very local geography, history, and traditional Indigenous values and lifestyles. The second Geography unit, The Wonder of Regional Geography, expands to your province/state and will include the history of Indigenous people's treatment on the land you live on.
This purchase includes one digital curriculum unit with 15 days of lesson plans and 5 days of flexible projects. This unit will inspire you with beautiful images, clear instructions and exciting project ideas.
And that's not all. You will also gain access to the Wonder Hub, which includes supporting documents, videos, resources, and community.
An important note about our geography units: Daily Wonder has students all around the world, so when it comes to learning about your specific province/state in Grade 4, we provide step-by-step guidance as to what aspects of history and geography you'll bring to your child each week of the unit. You, the parent or teacher, will then research and gather the information necessary to share with your child or learning pod students. And with Daily Wonder, each week is laid out so you can prepare with ease.
For this geography unit, please ensure you have gathered the necessary library books, which you will need starting on day 1. Refer to the Materials List for book themes.
