Grade 4 Unit 4 The Wonder of Poetry
The Wonder of Poetry invites your child to explore the rich world of poetic expression while strengthening their language arts skills. This engaging unit introduces a variety of poetry styles, including Acrostic, Diamante, Haiku, and many more, offering a well-rounded understanding of different poetic forms.
Throughout the unit, your child can write their own poems, refine their writing through proofreading and editing, and explore literary devices, oral language strategies, and grammar. Poetry memorization is also encouraged, allowing you to share and recite your favourite poems together, deepening the connection between you and your child.
To support learning across core subjects, this unit also includes two Special Investigations in Science and Social Studies. These optional explorations provide meaningful academic extensions, ideal for families who report learning or simply want to keep curiosity alive. In Science, your child will dive into the “Energy Relay Race,” an interactive activity exploring energy transfer. In Social Studies, the “What Are Demographics?” mini-project introduces key concepts in an age-appropriate way, setting the stage for deeper studies in later grades.
"The Wonder of Poetry" is more than just a unit—it's a journey into the beauty of words, self-expression, and creative exploration.
