Grade 4 Unit 10 The Wonder of My Region
The Wonder of My Region is the second unit in Daily Wonder’s Grade 4 geography sequence, guiding children beyond their immediate surroundings into a deeper understanding of the province, state, or territory where they live. Building on the place-based foundation established in The Wonder of My Place, this unit helps children form a clear picture of the broader landscape and the human stories connected to it.
Throughout the unit, children study the physical geography of their region, including major landforms, waterways, climate patterns, natural resources, and how these features have shaped human settlement and daily life. Map-making skills are further developed through drawing, modelling, and working with a “bird’s-eye view” of the land.
Children are also guided through an age-appropriate exploration of regional history, with careful attention to Indigenous perspectives. They learn about traditional Indigenous lifestyles, values, and relationships to the land, as well as early European settlement. The unit gently introduces treaties, laws, reservations, and residential schools, helping children understand how these historical actions affected Indigenous peoples and continue to shape the region today.
A science-focused investigation weaves physics and geography together as children explore energy input, output, and conservation, comparing Indigenous technologies with modern scientific inventions. Hands-on activities and optional experiments make abstract concepts concrete and meaningful.
Reflection, discussion, writing, artistic work, and hands-on projects are woven throughout the unit, encouraging children to think deeply about responsibility, healing, and relationship to place. The unit concludes by helping children consider how people live together on shared land today and what healthy relationships might look like in the future.
This purchase includes one digital curriculum unit with 15 days of lesson plans and 5 days of flexible projects. This unit will inspire you with beautiful images, clear instructions and exciting project ideas.

An important note about our geography units: Daily Wonder has students all around the world, so when it comes to learning about your specific province/state in Grade 4, we provide step-by-step guidance as to what aspects of history and geography you'll bring to your child each week of the unit. You, the parent or teacher, will then research and gather the information necessary to share with your child or learning pod students. And with Daily Wonder, each week is laid out so you can prepare with ease.
For this geography unit, please ensure you have gathered the necessary library books, which you will need starting on Day 1. For book themes, refer to the Materials List in the unit.
