With its grandeur, architectural feats, royalty, and riches, Ancient Egypt is always a wonder to children. In addition to these aspects, students are guided to see the Nile river's role in their daily lives and our human story's progression through myths, language, arts, and science.

​Curriculum Areas/Learning Outcomes

Language Arts: Concept: Texts can be understood from different perspectives.
Connection: Your child will write a first-person narrative, hear stories from ancient Egypt, and give an oral presentation.

Math: Concept: Closed shapes have area and perimeter that can be described, measured, and compared.
Connection: Your child will revisit area and perimeter. 

Social Studies: Concept: Natural resources continue to shape the economy and identity of different regions.
Connection: Ancient Egyptians mined gold, silver, granite, limestone, as well as many precious and semi-precious stones. These items were important for trading, building and status.

Science: Concept:  Machines are devices that transfer force and energy.
Connection: Your child will explore the work of the Egyptians who invented and used many simple machines, such as the ramp and the lever, to aid construction processes.

​Curriculum Overview

This unit will delve into daily life in ancient Egypt. The focus will be around the geography of the land and the importance of the Nile River. Your child will gain an appreciation for the natural resources of the Nile, and the gifts it offered. Each day you will be guided to introduce a new and interesting aspect of ancient Egyptian life, along with some of the myths and stories of the culture. At the same time, this unit offers an opportunity for an independent project. Your child will be working on it during Week 2 and 3, and can take more time in Week 4, if needed. It will entail a written story, an artistic project, and an oral presentation.
