Curriculum Overview
The study of Ancient Greece is an important shift in your child’s education. Up until now they have learned about the history of our human evolution through religious and cultural myths, fables and legends. They have now reached the moment where their logic and reasoning are awakening, and they are ready to hear the biographies of historical figures and the history of events as they are documented. The focus of Ancient Greece parallels the shift in your child, as we are now focusing on the logic and reason that was awakening in the human being at this time in Ancient Greece. The story of the Iliad, read last month, and the Odyssey this month, mark the shift taking place. Humans used to plead and pray to the gods for help, and now, Odysseus must use his own logic and reason to save himself. Your child will learn about the most famous city-states of Ancient Greece, the great battles, the Golden Age of Athens and its contribution to modern civilization, and the story of Alexander the Great.
