Curriculum Overview
Spring brings a wonderful opportunity to get into the garden or start growing some potted plants on your windowsill. It is also a perfect time to go on regular walks in meadows or forests, if possible, so your child can witness what they are learning about in real life. This unit picks up where we left off after Wonder of Botany in the fall. Your child will now learn about the wonder of the flowering plants that grow annually and perennially. They will learn about monocotyledons and dicotyledons. They will sketch the anatomy of a flower and learn about the organs of the plant. They will plan and conduct experiments to learn about photosynthesis. They will learn about the relationship that the bee and the butterfly have to the flower. They will learn about certain common plants used for food and medicine. Charles Kovac’s book, Botany, informs this unit.
