The Wonder of Grade 4: Full Grade
Your child is taking a further step towards independence. They are gaining a new awareness of themselves. When they were younger, they were more connected to you and their environment; now, they look at their environment and you with a more critical eye! This can feel upsetting if you don't remember that it is all part of their developmental path toward independence!! So take a deep breath and smile!Â
This year, the study of Local Geography will help them gain confidence as they develop a sense of where they are geographically and gain skills to navigate from A to B. The Norse Myths offer fantastic tales displaying a broad spectrum of human characteristics your child will relate to. New challenges in report writing and fractions will satisfy their urge for independence.
This purchase includes a digital copy (PDF) of all 10 curriculum units for Grade 4, each with 15 days of lesson plans and 5 days of flexible projects. These units will inspire you with beautiful images, clear instructions and exciting project ideas.
And that's not all. You will also gain access to the Wonder Hub, which includes supporting documents, videos, resources, and community.
Grade 4 Norse Myths, Geography, Zoology and Fractions
Grade 4 Units
The Wonder of My PlaceThe Wonder of My Place is the first unit in Daily Wonder’s Grade 4 geography sequence. Beginning at home and gradually expanding to the surrounding local area, children build map-making skills while exploring Indigenous stories, early settlement, and the natural features of the place they live. This parent-guided unit lays the foundation for later studies of My Region and My Country, inviting children into a meaningful relationship with place.
Because Daily Wonder families live all around the world, our geography units are designed as parent-guided studies. Rather than providing fixed regional content, we offer clear, step-by-step guidance on what to bring each week and how to do so with confidence. You will research and gather information specific to your own place, with each week carefully laid out to make preparation manageable and meaningful. For this geography unit, please ensure you have gathered the necessary library books, which you will need starting on Day 1. For book themes, refer to the Materials List in the unit. The Wonder of Norse Mythology 1Embark on an epic journey through the captivating world of Norse mythology, where creativity, language, and ancient stories come to life. In this unit, your child will delve into the magic of Norse myths, exploring the tales of gods, heroes, and mythical creatures that shaped the Viking world. Through engaging language arts activities, they will develop essential grammar and writing skills, from proofreading dictations to mastering nouns, adjectives, and the rules of apostrophes and exploring verb tenses, root words, and spelling rules.
Your child will also discover the ancient runes, learn to write, and possibly craft their own set. They'll dive deep into the tales of Loki and Sif, drawing parallels between these legendary stories and their own experiences. By exploring literary elements like theme, character, and plot, your child will build a strong foundation in storytelling, enhanced by discussions, drama, poetry, oral presentations and creative writing exercises, building confidence and a strong speaking voice. |
The Wonder of Fractions: Whole to PartsThis engaging first fractions unit is a unique learning experience that brings the abstract concept of fractions to life through hands-on activities, such as crafts, movement, games, and cooking.
The primary purpose of this first fraction unit is to bring the concept that "a fraction is a part of a whole" to life and to become comfortable working with fractions in simple ways. The unit kicks off with a dramatic and hands-on introduction to fractions, followed by a month-long journey of activities that make fractions come alive. Food is integrated into the learning process, providing ample opportunities for your child to divide and enjoy delicious treats. Additionally, your child will create their own math manipulatives by drawing, cutting, and crafting fraction shapes. This unit accommodates each child's unique learning pace, ensuring a comfortable and personalized exploration of fractions. |
The Wonder of PoetryThis engaging unit is designed to help children explore various poetry styles, express themselves through writing, and strengthen their language arts skills. It covers an array of poetry styles, including Acrostic, Diamante, Haiku, and more, providing children with a well-rounded understanding of poetic expression.
This unit also encourages the memorization of poetry and allows parents to share their favourite poems with their child, which you can recite each morning. As your child creates their own poems, these can be included in the morning opening verses. The final week of the unit culminates in an independent project, inspiring children to create poetry games, craft heartfelt gifts for friends and family, or organize a poetry reading with loved ones, fostering a sense of fun and creativity. |
The Wonder of Zoology 1This enriching unit uniquely explores the animal kingdom by drawing meaningful connections between humans and animals. Designed to engage your child's curiosity and understanding, the central theme of this unit emphasizes what distinguishes humans from animals: our ability to walk upright, freeing our hands to serve ourselves and others. This concept introduces your child to the idea that our hands are tools for creating, helping, and giving back to the world, instilling a sense of responsibility and morality. While animals possess specialized skills—like incredible hearing, eyesight, or the ability to fly—humans have a balanced skill set and the creativity to design tools that extend our capabilities beyond our natural limits.

The Wonder of Norse Mythology 2Welcome to the thrilling second unit of Norse Mythology! This unit takes us on a deeper exploration of the rich body of myths of the North Germanic peoples, stemming from Norse paganism and continuing after the Christianization of Scandinavia and into the Scandinavian folklore of the modern period. Engage in lively discussions, thoughtful reflections, and creative writing activities to bring the stories of the Norse gods to life. This interactive approach will deepen your child's understanding and make learning a fun and engaging experience.
Special attention will be given to further developing grammar and writing skills. Your child will also continue to gain skills in dictionary use, reading aloud, and oral language features. You will guide your child to review the parts of speech already learned: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions. In this unit, they will learn about the use of articles, conjunctions, and interjections, and your child will work more with commas, exclamation marks, and question marks as they learn about the Four Types of Sentences. |
The Wonder of Zoology 2Building on the foundation in the first unit, this second zoology unit will introduce your child to animal classifications. The primary focus will be on an independent research project. You will guide your child in approaching a written report through step-by-step instructions. Your child will research an animal they would like to learn more about. This project will include a written report, an artistic project, a creative poem, and an oral presentation, ensuring a seamless continuation of your child's learning journey. Charles Kovacs' book, The Human Being and the Animal World, informs this unit.

The Wonder of Fractions: Parts to WholeThe third and final fraction unit brings together fraction learning through multiplication and division. Using concrete demonstrations, pattern discovery, and gradual movement toward abstraction, children learn how fractional parts combine and return to the whole with clarity and confidence.
This unit will also focus on positive personal and cultural identity. An Indigenous-themed book of your choice will serve as a source for comparing and contrasting your child’s experiences with those of the people in the book. Your child will investigate their own personal and cultural identity. They will discover the importance of having a positive sense of identity. In the third week, they will create an artistic representation of their findings and a creative writing piece. |
The Wonder of My RegionThis is the second Grade 4 geography unit. In the first unit, Wonder of My Place, your child expanded their mapmaking and geographical awareness from your house to your neighbourhood and into your town, city, and area. This unit will pick up where you left off and empower you to guide your child to take ever-expanding steps to understand your province, state or territory's geographical landscape and Indigenous peoples' history.
An important note about our geography units: Daily Wonder has students all around the world, so when it comes to learning about your specific province/state/territory in Grade 4, we provide step-by-step guidance as to what aspects of history and geography you'll bring to your child each week of the unit. You, the parent or teacher, will then research and gather the information necessary to share with your child or learning pod students. And with Daily Wonder, each week is laid out so you can prepare with ease. For this geography unit, please ensure you have gathered the necessary library books, which you will need starting on Day 1.
